Thermage

The Thermage procedure employs a patented radiofrequency (RF) technology. It has been clinically proven to tighten and gently lift skin to smooth out wrinkles and renew facial contours. Unlike other procedures, the incision-free procedure is fast and easy, and requires no downtime from normal activities. Unlike lasers, the procedure can be performed on patients of all skin types. The Thermage device has been cleared and certified by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for the non-invasive treatment of wrinkles and for face lift.
How does it work?
The Thermage device uses a sophisticated treatment tip called ThermaTip. This tip delivers a controlled and pre-specified amount of RF energy. With each touch to the skin, the ThermaTip device uniformly heats a volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue while simultaneously helping to protect the outer layer of the skin with cooling. This deep uniform heating action causes deep structures in your skin to immediately tighten. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to further tighten skin, resulting in healthier, smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.
How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?
TThe Thermage procedure may cause immediate tightening of the collagen structure, with additional tightening over time. Unpublished reports by experienced cosmetic physicians indicate that results may last 24 months or longer based on the patient’s natural aging process. Some reports even claim that it will last up to 5 years.
Is the Thermage procedure safe?
The Thermage procedure has an excellent safety record. With over 70,000 estimated worldwide patient treatments to date the reported incidence of minimal side effects is less than 1%. The most frequently reported side effects are classified as swelling, redness, bumps and blisters on or around the treated area. These side effects may resolve in a few days or weeks. In less than 0.2% of patients the recovery time may last longer than this.
How long after the treatment can I return to my normal activities?
Most patients return to their regular activities immediately following the procedure. Some patients experience mild redness (like a sunburn), but it usually disappears quickly.
What does the procedure feel like?
With each touch of the tip device, you will experience a brief, deep heating sensation as the energy is delivered to your skin and underlying tissue. This deep heating sensation is your indication that your collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. The ThermaTip device is cooled before, during, and after heating to protect your skin and make the treatment more comfortable. Prior to treatment, an anesthetic cream may be applied to enhance your comfort.
When will I see the results?
Recently published studies showed that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months after a single treatment session. However, many patients have reported an earlier response.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
Unlike many laser procedures requiring four or more sessions, a single Thermage treatment has produced results in the majority of patients.
How long does the session take?
The Thermage procedure can take from thirty to ninety minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. Additional time may be required for skin preparation prior to the procedure.
Is it as much effective as face lift?
The Thermage procedure is a non-invasive radio-wave treatment of face lifting in only one session without any pain and discomfort. Thermage is the only procedure delivering a tighter face skin and re-contouring your face on a non-invasive way. Thermage is a safe method, delivering a more youthful expression to a tighter skin with negligible side effects. It is the first choice treatment, especially in face rejuvenation, for patients who are afraid of being operated or have contraindications of being operated because of certain health problems. Thermage can never be accepted for being as effective as a face lift operation. Especially in patients with an extremely loose skin, thick skin, and person with an extremely loose chin or jowl the Thermage procedure will not be very successful. Otherwise a second session after 6 months can be performed for these patients.
